Before changing your workouts…
Before cutting more calories…
Before adding more cardio…
Find out what’s actually changing.
You’re training consistently and watching what you eat. Maybe the scale is moving. Maybe it isn’t.
The scale only tells you weight.
A Bodymass DEXA scan splits your weight into fat, lean mass and bone, so you can see what’s really changing.

The scale showed 2 lb. Your body changed by 10 lb.
Weight only dropped 2 lb, but this person lost 6 lb of fat and gained 4 lb of lean muscle mass, a total composition change of 10 lb. The scale would not show that.
Example client result. Individual results vary.
Body fat
Total fat mass and your body-fat percentage.
Lean mass
Your muscle tissue, so you can tell if you’re building or keeping it.
High-risk fat
High risk visceral or android fat around the abdominal organs, which weight and BMI miss.
Bone density
A baseline for bone health you can monitor over time.
Regional breakdown
How muscle and fat are distributed across arms, legs and trunk.
Left-to-right balance
Lean mass compared side to side.
See what the scale can’t show you.
Why measuring your body composition matters
Weight and BMI can’t tell fat from muscle, or show where your body stores fat. Both are tied to how well you age.
Where you store fat matters
High risk visceral or android fat sits around your abdominal organs and is linked to higher risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. It can be elevated even when your weight and BMI look normal. A DEXA scan estimates it, so you can track it.
Muscle is a longevity asset
Large studies link low muscle mass to higher risk of diabetes and earlier death. Muscle also supports strength, balance and mobility as you get older. Your lean mass number shows whether you’re protecting it.
Muscle loss is easy to miss
Lean mass tends to decline with age, and it can drop during aggressive dieting. The scale reads the same whether you lose fat or muscle. A scan shows which one it was.
Your bones are part of the picture
DEXA is the standard tool for measuring bone mineral density. A baseline now gives you something to compare against later, so changes get noticed early.
A number you can track beats a guess.
Two people can weigh the same and carry very different health risk. Repeat scans show whether your habits are moving the right numbers.
Educational information, not medical advice. A DEXA scan is not a diagnosis. Review your results with your doctor.

Save $29 when you book both together.
Appointment length: 45 minutes. Come fasted with no exercise for 4 hours before.
DEXA Body Composition Scan
Your body fat, lean mass, high risk visceral or android fat and bone density. Appointment length: 30 minutes.
RMR Test (Resting Metabolic Rate)
A short breathing test that measures how many calories you burn at rest, so you stop guessing. Appointment length: 30 minutes. Come fasted with no exercise for 4 hours before.
Pricing is the same at all five locations. Code LoseFat20 takes 20% off your DEXA scan.

Book the DEXA + RMR ComboHow to prepare for your appointment
A little prep keeps your results accurate.
Fast and skip exercise (RMR and Combo)
The RMR test and the DEXA + RMR Combo must be done fasted and without exercise for 4 hours before testing. Fasted means no food, caffeine, caloric beverages or tobacco products for 4 hours. Take your medication as normal.
What to wear
Loose-fitting, light clothing such as workout apparel.
Remove metal for DEXA
You will be asked to remove large pieces of metal, such as fitness trackers, jewelry and glasses, because they can affect test results. Small pieces of jewelry will have minimal impact on the DEXA if they cannot be removed.
Glucose monitors are fine
You can wear a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) during testing.
Implants and medical devices
Pacemakers, joint replacements, breast implants and similar devices are generally safe to test with. If you have questions, we suggest getting permission from your physician. Implants can sometimes affect bone density results.
Safety, pregnancy and recent procedures
DEXA uses a low dose of X-ray radiation, and exposure is cumulative over a lifetime. If you are pregnant, might be, or are unsure, check with a healthcare professional first and tell our staff. Also tell us if you are receiving radiation treatment or have recently had a procedure involving radioactive materials, contrast agents or other imaging. DEXA at Bodymass is not a medical diagnosis.
Your bone density numbers
You will receive a T-score and a Z-score for overall bone density, not for each individual site. Bone mineral density numbers are informational and non-diagnostic.

Questions before you book
What is a DEXA scan?
A DEXA scan is a low-dose X-ray that measures fat, lean muscle and bone separately. It’s considered a gold standard for body composition.
How much does it cost?
A DEXA scan is $109, an RMR test is $109, and the DEXA + RMR Combo is $189, which saves $29 compared with booking both separately. Pricing is the same at all five locations. Enter code LoseFat20 at checkout for 20% off your DEXA scan.
How long does an appointment take?
A DEXA scan appointment is 30 minutes, an RMR test appointment is 30 minutes, and the DEXA + RMR Combo appointment is 45 minutes.
What do I need to do before an RMR test or the Combo?
The RMR test and the DEXA + RMR Combo must be done fasted and without exercise for 4 hours before testing. Fasted means no food, caffeine, caloric beverages or tobacco products for 4 hours. Take your medication as normal on the day of testing.
What should I wear?
Wear loose-fitting, light clothing such as workout apparel.
Do I need to remove jewelry or other metal?
Yes. You will be asked to remove large pieces of metal, such as fitness trackers, jewelry and glasses, during DEXA scans because they can affect test results. Small pieces of jewelry will have minimal impact on the DEXA if they cannot be removed.
Can I wear a continuous glucose monitor during testing?
Yes. You can wear a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) during testing.
Can I be tested with a pacemaker, joint replacement or breast implants?
Medical devices and implants such as pacemakers, joint replacements and breast implants are generally safe to test with. If you have questions, we suggest getting permission from your physician. Implants can sometimes affect bone density results.
What bone density results will I receive?
You will receive a T-score and a Z-score for your overall bone density, not for individual sites such as the lumbar spine or femur. Bone mineral density numbers are for informational, non-diagnostic purposes.
When do I get my results?
Reports are delivered and reviewed immediately during your testing session. Exceptions can apply for customers sent directly from Bodymass business partners, who have their reports reviewed separately.
When should I retest?
Most people retest after 8 to 12 weeks of consistent training and nutrition, so there’s enough time for real change.
How do I reschedule my appointment?
You can reschedule using the link at the bottom of your appointment confirmation email, or by calling or emailing your Bodymass location.
What is the late cancellation policy?
Appointments rescheduled within 24 hours of their scheduled time incur a $20 fee. Appointments that are missed or cancelled after the appointment time incur a $50 fee. You will retain your appointment for rebooking.
Is a DEXA scan safe?
A DEXA scan uses low-dose X-rays, so you are exposed to a small amount of ionizing radiation. The dose from a body composition DEXA scan is low, but radiation exposure is cumulative over a lifetime, so unnecessary exposure should be avoided. DEXA at Bodymass is for body composition, fitness, performance and wellness. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or medical condition, and it does not replace evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional. Before your scan you will be asked to review and acknowledge a radiation exposure consent form.
Can I get a DEXA scan if I am pregnant?
People who are pregnant, suspect they may be pregnant, or are unsure should not have a DEXA scan without first consulting a healthcare professional. You will be asked to confirm that, to the best of your knowledge, you are not pregnant, and to tell our staff before your scan if you are pregnant, might be, or are uncertain.
Do recent medical procedures, contrast studies or radiation treatment affect my DEXA scan?
They can. Certain medical procedures, including some imaging studies, nuclear medicine procedures, contrast studies and radiation treatments, may affect whether a DEXA scan should be performed or the accuracy of your results. Tell our staff before your scan if you are currently receiving radiation treatment or have recently had a procedure involving radioactive materials, contrast agents or other imaging that may be relevant. If you are unsure whether a medical condition, pregnancy status or recent procedure makes a DEXA scan appropriate, consult a qualified healthcare professional first.
